Encouraging Words from Barbara Francis
Catching a glimpse of the Father’s heart is the chief goal of our prayer life.
The topic of prayer can produce a variety of emotions, I’ve discovered. Many of us are eager to learn and grow…but not everyone. We have so many questions, a lot of guilt, and even some doubts when it comes to the topic of prayer: “I know I should pray or pray more but I just don’t take the time.” “Why do I have cancer/MS/migraines/mental illness? I’ve prayed for healing and…nothing.” “My children are so far adrift spiritually. I raised them in the Lord, have prayed for years for a change, but still they rebel.” “Does God really hear and answer?” What are some issues that have hindered forward progress in your prayer life?
I have wrestled with many of the same questions. Yet, for me, drawing near to God and allowing Him to draw near to me have provided more comfort than I could imagine in some harsh and horrid places. There is a mystery about prayer, to be sure. We will never fully understand the way and will of God this side of the throne. But we press on to know the Lord…through prayer. I like what one author has said: “The primary purpose of prayer is to bring us into a life of communion with the Father so that, by the power of the Spirit, we are increasingly conformed to the image of the Son.”

Barbara's new book
Grace and Guts- What it takes to forgive
will be available June 19 2009.
Why read another book on forgiveness?
This is not a dry and boring approach to a time-worn topic. The reader will be pleasantly surprised by the contemporary, conversational style of Grace & Guts and by the honest manner in which the author contends with the issues surrounding forgiveness.
The book uniquely unpacks the two sides of forgiveness-embracing it and extending it-through real-life narratives, creative paraphrases of biblical stories dealing with forgiveness, and a spot-on use of principles from the word of God.
Grace & Guts helps us delve into the dark places of unforgiveness that reside within all of us and then points a hopeful finger toward the way out.
